Day 1 / Arrival in Tbilisi

Arrival in Tbilisi international airport. Pick up from Tbilisi international airport and transfer to hotel. Check in a hotel  for some rest. The rest will be followed by the walk through the night Tbilisi streets. After a night city tour have an evening dinner at a restaurant with an opportunity to get acquainted with the traditional Georgian feast, watch the professional performance of colorful Georgian folk dances and  listen to the Georgian singing.  Overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 2 / Tbilisi City Tour – Mtskheta – Jvari Tbilisi ( 56 km )

After a breakfast at the hotel, we’ll start  a Tbilisi – City Tour. This charming town was built in the 5th century along the twisting valley of the Mtkvari River. So, you will be able to see a lots of antiquities chained into a modern infrastructure. We will start tour from the 13th century Metekhi church. Continue to the Synagogue, Syoni Cathedral and Anchiskhati Basilica. Than we approach the 4th century Narikala Fortress, on the cable cab, from which you can enjoy a picturesque panoramic view of Tbilisi. And the walk to the brick-domed Sulfur Baths and botanical garden. After the city tour we proceed ito Mtskheta - one of Georgia’s ancient cities (3000 years old) and see its historical place Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th cen.) Where the Robe of Christ is buried. This monument is also under a UNESCO protection. From here we continue road to the hill, Mtskheta,where the - Jvari ( cross) Monastery is located. One of the masterpieces of Georgian architecture was built in the 6th century. Jvari now represents the one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites.

 

Day 3 / Tbilisi – Davit Gareja – Bodbe – Signaghi ( 210 km )

After a breakfast at the hotel drive to David Gareji, which  is  a historical-architectural museum-reserve  located  on  the  half-desert slopes of Mount Gareji, some 105 km south-east of Tbilisi. This is a remarkable  rock-hewn monastery  complex including 16 medieval architectural monuments. The first monastery was founded in the 6th century by David, one of the thirteen Assyrian monks who came to Georgia for strengthening Christian faith. The complex includes hundreds of cells, churches, chapels, misericords and habitation hollowed out of the rock face. The healthy 30 minutes climb uphill  to  chalk-stone caves  is worth of it as when  reaching  the peak  the breathtaking views  are  scattered  from there.  The  view  seems  endless. Towards  the  south  are  the  plains  of Azerbaijan and down below is the huge canyon in which resides the main area of  Davit Gareji. Then we proceed  to  Bodbe – The Monasteru of St. Nino at Bodbe. Originally built in the 9th century, it has been significantly remodeled, especially in the 17th century. The monastery now functions as  a nunnery and reoresent the one of the major pilgrimage sites in Georgia. As well as,  due to its association with St. Nino, the 4th century female evangelist of Georgia. Her relics are shrined in Bodbe. Afterwards, we move to Sighnaghi – one of Georgia’s historic  city. We check in a hotel have some evening dinner and overnight.

 

Day 4 / Sighnaghi – Gremi –Ikalto –AlaverdI –Tbilisi ( 215 km )

After a breakfast at the hotel we walk through Sighnaghi city which  kept  its original style  during  the centuries with  open  traditional  balconies,  unique  fortress with  churches  and  towers  built  in  it  and narrow beautiful streets to walk along. Sighnaghi is also known as “a city of love”, overlooks the Alazani valley and opens to visitors the magnificent views of the Great Caucasus Range. Afterwards we proceed to Gremi. This historical and architectural monument dates back to 15th century(a king’s hall and three floor tower with bell-tower). There are displayed objects unearthed in the reserve area. Afterwards, we arrive in Ikalto Monastery and Academy Coplex. Ikalto Monastery was founded in late 6th century by Saint Zenon one of the 13 Assyrian monks in Eastern part of Georgia, Kakheti Region. But the most notable it become in a middle 12th century when there was built an Academy of Ikalto by Arsen Ikaltoeli during the reign of king David IV- the Builder. So the Ikalto Monastery and Academy become the most popular and significant historical-educational centers in Georgia. In this place are represented three churches. The main one Kvtaeba ( Holly Spirit in English) was built in 8th-9th century. This place with it’s past spirit is worth to see while being in Kakheti Region. We will have a lunch and than arive back to Tbilisi. Check in a hotel and overnight at the hotel.

 

Gremi performs a historical-architectural museum-reserve( 15th c. monument- a king’s hall and three floor tower with bell-tower). There are displayed objects unearthed in the reserve area. Continuing our way we fall in a 5th to 7th century primitiveness with still untouchable, wild and beautiful nature. The old medium mountain- “Dzveli Shuamta” is  located in a deep forest, 7km from town Telavi (45km from Sighnaghi city) . The complex of ancient fane consists of three churches , one namely a 5th century basilica, a 7th century church (similar to Mtskheta Jvari) and a 7th century minor domed church. After a small sneak in the nature (well organized), at night we return to Tbilisi and check in a hotel.  

 

Day 5 / Tbilisi- Gori – Uplistsikhe – Borjomi  ( 194 km )

Breakfast at the hotel , check out and travel to Shida Kartli ( “Inner Kartli “) Region’s center – Gori. Which represents a historical , cultural and trade center of the region. Where nowadays we can visit a Gori Fortress ( located on a hill ), St. George’s Church of Gorijvari ( on another hill. dated to 18th century ) and a Joseph Stalin Museum. Foto stop at the Joseph Stalin Museum. Visit house- Museum of Joseph Stalin ( for additional payment 4 euro per PAX). Continue our way to the most attractive touristic destinations in Shida Kartli Region in- Uplistsikhe. Uplistsikhe is an ancient rock-hewn town, dated back to the first millennium B.C. Have a lunch and than continue way to Borjomi - one of the famous resort towns of Georgia. Borjomi is known with it’s flora and fauna as well as,  with it’s mineral water. Check in a hotel and overnight.

 

 

Day 6 / Borjomi –Khertvisi – Vardzia – Tbilisi ( 314 km )

Breakfast at the hotel , check out and travel to Khertvisi Fortress which represents the one of Meskheti Region’s  surrendings, proposing us an opportunity to see Georgia’s one of the oldest castles built in 2nd century BC. What about the church so far sighted draws us to 985th  and the walls to much older period of 1354th . According to the legend Khertvisi was destroyed by Alexander the Great. Afterwards we continue our way to Vardzia - The rock caved town Vardzia,which’s high is 100 meter and length approximately a kilometer is cliffed out in the strong massive of cliffs with 3000 cells in it. Nowadays there exists only 550 of them. There existed 13 floor connected with complex system of tunnels. It was built in 10th to 12th century and represented the fortress- village for protecting the military territory of Georgia. Except cells we can see here a main , Sint Merty’s Church built in the middle of complex. Also, we are able to see in the complex area “Tamar spring” which you can taste yourself. Arrive in Tbilisi.Check in a hotel and overnight.

 

 

Day 7 / Tbilisi –Departure 

Breakfast at the hotel , check out and transfer to Airport and Departure.
